DAO (Downturned Smile)

Treatment Overview
The depressor anguli oris, or DAO, is the muscle responsible for pulling the corners of the mouth downwards, which can create a sad or tired expression even when resting. A small amount of botulinum toxin placed into this muscle allows the corners of the mouth to rest in a more neutral or slightly lifted position, softening a downturned smile and restoring a warmer, more approachable appearance. This targeted treatment is ideal for clients concerned about downturned mouth corners, and is often combined with dermal filler for a more complete result. It is suitable for most adults and is delivered by our aesthetic nurse practitioner following a consultation and medical assessment. Results develop over three to seven days, with the full effect visible at around two weeks. The effect typically lasts three to four months, and regular treatments help maintain the result. A review appointment is recommended to ensure a balanced outcome.
